He did this live at a (very) small gig at my college union in '69; only about a dozen of us in the audience but it sold me for life. One of the great folk/folk-rock artists of our time (no argument). Mind you he shared a flat in the early days with Ralph McTell and Richard Digence so something must have rubbed of on him!

Inconsequential factoid: I stood next to him at the bar in the interval but was so tongue tied with admiration that I could only make some banal comment about the fact that Suzanne was playing in the background and how you heard it all over the place.... what a twat. Mind you if it happened again today I would probably act fairly similairly.... oh dear.
Another inconsequential piece of nonsense: Ashley Hutchings was a founding member of Fairport Convention and a very nice guy who. as part of the Albion Christmas Band, I had the privilege to meet at a private gig in our village a few years go. The band also included another Fairport founder, Simon Nicol; Che notte!
