David Bowie album cover

Bowie

I don't really know why I am adding this post.... what can I add that hasn't already said?  I suppose only that, while I don't tend to 'idolise' anyone, if I had to pick my top 5 (or 10, or...) musical 'heroes' (note reference ho ho), then Mr. Jones easily ranks near the top (for the others you'll have to wait)(oh, OK then, Joni, The Stones)(and obviously the others posts on this site).

On his web site it states "The Man Who Sold The World was the first David Bowie album recorded as an entity unto itself and marks ground zero of the first definitive creative stretch to come."  Personally I disagree, The 'David Bowie' album (later re-issued as "Space Oddity") always has been my favourite Bowie album.  OK, so it was the first one I purchased, in Boots, in Bromley, in the remaindered section!!  Imaganie a few years later if any of his albums could have been 'remaindered (except perhaps 'Tonight' but that is entirely subjective).

Interstingly, one of the things that attracted me to this album was the cover - At the time I was also a big admirer of the Hungarian artist Victor Vasarely on whose 'CTA 25 Neg' the artwork was based and still have the large 'coffe table' art book of his works.

Things I have in common with David Bowie:

  • Same age (more or less)
  • Both Brixton boys (more or less)
  • I was in hospital waiting for a cancer operation the day he died - ruined my day I can tell you.  Such a great loss.

Things I don't have in common:

  • Talent
